This is my first Blog! I am excited to begin this adventure and hope you find interest in my blog as well.
First, a bit about me. I was raised in a small hamlet near the Oshawa area of Southern Ontario, Canada. When I began school at the age of 6, there was no kindergarten and the school was approximately 2 miles from home. There were no sidewalks, and the speed limit was 60 mph…not kilometers. This was an era before the Big Yellow school buses and in the country, there were no taxis either. Winters were cold and we just dressed for it. It was also a time before the metric system was used and I can remember my Mom saying a few days each winter, “its below zero, don’t lolly gag on the way”. By the time I was of age to enter High School or Secondary School as it is called now, one had been built just under a mile from home. Go figure! At 6 I could walk 2 miles, at 14 anyone over a mile could ride the school bus! How times have changed.
I had always wanted to be a teacher since 11th grade, but at the time, with five brothers and sisters, one bathroom, there were no extra funds for University. After graduating from my Business and Commerce course, my first job was in a newspaper office accounting department. I went through many different career changes looking for my niche. At 20 I married, raised two fine sons and my career grew in the business world. From office management, to Senior Computer Programmer Analyst/Consultant , to Certified Level III NCCP Coaching Course Facilitator, Self Employed Entrepreneur, Hairstylist, Reflexology Practitioner and Professional Coach, experiencing many successes and what is called failure in the normal world, including divorce and a second long term relationship that failed, and now happily remarried, I have arrived.
My business coaching began in 1972 with adults and in 1976 with children in bowling and softball and graduated to adults in both those sports. I have taught over a thousand children and adults in sports from an athletic perspective and hundreds of adults to become teachers and/or coaches. In the business world, I travelled throughout Ontario working with over a hundred businesses and countless business systems. My life as a teacher took on a totally different vision than I had anticipated in high school in classrooms unlike the norm, and my rewards have been priceless.
What was your beginning and where are you now? I’d like to hear about that! Please feel free to comment below.
